My first HYBRID cards!

I've owned the software program My Digital Studio since before Christmas.  I used it once and got frustrated because of the lack of content.  When asked, I have even told people that I didn't care for it because I just didn't understand why you'd want to buy a piece of software and then have to constantly buy content additions in order to do a scrapbook which you'd then have to pay to have professionally printed.  Needless to say, I missed the point.  I decided to try it again and this time I tried it, not by selecting a ready-made design, but from scratch.  Imagine my surprise when I went to select a stamped image and saw an entire list!  This program has WAY more content than I knew existed!  lol  I also realized that I didn't have to use the program to make scrapbooks.  I could use it to make things to add to my scrapbook pages or to add to cards.  (The light bulb finally came on!)  Today I made a scrapbook layout which is mostly done the old fashioned way, but I did add elements from My Digital Studio.  (I'll be sharing the scrapbook page in the next couple of days.)  I also used the program to make my own printed paper on vellum for a card!  All I did was use a digital background paper and then added 2 digital stamped images.  I printed it on vellum in my laser printer (which only prints black, by the way) and used that to make the cards.  One was easy because I just attached the vellum to cardstock and it was done!  For the other one I flipped the image over and did a watercolor technique on the back of the vellum to soften the color.  Then I attached it to the card.  I LOVE it!  I love that I can now make my own designer paper by just using my computer and printer.  I love that if I want multiples of the same paper, I can have it rather than depending on the 2-sheets per pattern in the Designer Series Paper packages.  Anyway, I know I've just taken my first steps with the software and I'm sure I'll have more moments of surprise and delight as I continue to learn.

Birthday Vase

Wow.. I've been neglecting my blog lately.  Frankly, I've been trying to find my stampin' mojo because it's been temporarily unavailable.  lol  Here's a birthday card using paper from Botanical Gazette which will be retiring in just a couple of days.  I loved the paper when it arrived and I guess I was saving it for something special because I've had it for months and just now started using it.  Well..... that just means I'll still have plenty when it does retire.  lol

Happy Easter!

I love Easter and it's message of hope.  I also love the secular part of Easter... coloring eggs, eating chocolate bunnies, etc.  Tomorrow I plan to attend sunrise service at my church.  Then my husband and I will color Easter eggs and gobble some chocolate.  I gave up Starbucks for Lent, so I may have to drop by and get a venti White Mocha too.  hehe  However you celebrate the holiday, I hope it's a wonderful day spent with family and friends.

This card is one I received from my friend, Kathy.  Concord Crush is one of my favorite colors and I think it looks so elegant with the little girl from the Easter Blossoms stamp set.  Happy Easter!

Birthday Bakery

I've had the level 1 hostess stamp set, Birthday Bakery, for several months and I just never felt inspired to try it out until now.  What I found was that it makes really cute cards.  Who knew?  lol  I just stamped the images and colored them in and added a stamped tag (also in the set.)  It made making a cute birthday card very simple.... and I love cards that I can make quickly.  This set is still available (for FREE!) when you host a workshop or just place an order of $150 or more.  (PS -The blue on the cake is not mold.  lol  I like to think of it as blueberry frosting!  hehe)

Strength & Hope

Beginning on May 1st with the debut of the Summer Mini Catalog, you'll have the opportunity to make a difference by buying the Strength & Hope stamp set.  Stampin' Up is donating $2 from the purchase of this set to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation which is an organization dedicated to preventing and finding a cure for breast cancer.  It's a beautiful set and the butterfly stamp is probably one of my favorites.

Getting ready for a OWH workshop

It's almost time again to make cards with my Episcopal Church Women's group for Operation Write Home.  It's an organization that collects and sends cards to deployed troops so that they can keep in touch with people back home.  I think it's a worthwhile organization and it's a great way for the women in the church to come together and do something fun as a group.  I look for simple cards since the ladies aren't really paper crafters.  This is one of the cards I'm planning.  I have the bird popping out of the card for added fun.

Elements of Style

I loved the Elements of Style stamp set when I purchased it last year, but it's been a while since I used it.  As I was going through my sets, I saw it and decided to revisit the set.  I made a soft card with blushing bride, perfect plum, and sahara sand (a combination straight from the SU Color Coach!)

Layered Designer Series Paper

Layered DSP can made a statement all by itself.  I copied this idea from a card design by Anna Griffin.  I love the look.  It's simple and elegant.  It's a little labor intensive to cut designs out of the paper and find matching parts to cut out, however, I love the look.  In person, you can really see the detail of the layers I've popped up with dimensionals.  Those details don't really show in the picture, but try it at home.  I think you'll like the way your card stands out.

I love the new Paisley Petals DSP and I've been using it a lot lately.  I made paper flowers to put on one card and did another quilted look on the other.  I've really been into the quilted look lately!

Spring is Blossoming

A new month means new promotions for YOU!   Starting today there is a sneak peek of some items that will be in the 2011-2012 Idea Book and Catalog!  In addition to being able to see them, if you place any order of $20 or more this month, you'll have the opportunity to purchase them.  There are 2 items.  One is the 4 Frames Stamp Set and the other is a beautiful pack of Paisley Petals designer series paper.  Here is a quilted-style card I made using both of these fabulous new products.  You can contact me for more details about the promotion or visit my website (http://vanessa.stampinup.net) for more info.

In addition to the Spring is Blossoming promotion, there is something else that may interest you.  New items have been added to the clearance rack.  You can find it by clicking on my website, clicking "shop now" and then clicking on the "clearance rack" on the left side of the page.  There are some awesome deals to be found there right now, but quantities are limited so if you find something you want, buy it quickly before it's gone.  There are also grab bags.  I have no idea what will be found inside although I do know they are not necessarily unique in that if you buy 2 they may have the same items.  I also know they will not contain stamp sets or tools.  I ordered one for myself  and I'll be sure to share it's contents when it arrives.  Happy Shopping!
