Happy Halloween!

I love Halloween!  I just wish I was young again so I could go door-to-door getting treats.  It's so much fun to dress up and just act silly.  I know it's a little late for Halloween card inspiration... unless you're in a hurry to get one to a friend or family member.  hehe
Happy Haunting!

**THIS JUST IN.. I just read on the Stampin' Up website that they are extending the recruiting promotion until November 11th.  That means if you were trying to decide whether or not to take advantage of the $100 free merchandise, now you have more time to weigh your options.**

October Promos End Soon

Monday marks the end of October and the end of the Stampin' Up promotions for this month.  There are 2 this month.

One is that you can sign up as a demonstrator for $175 and get, not only a kit filled with stamps and supplies, but you will also receive an additional $100 in merchandise or you can select the Sizzix Big Shot machine.  Stampin' Up does do many recruitment promotions throughout the year, but this is the first time I've seen them offering so much stuff for free.  I just wish I could sign up again to get the goodies!  lol
The 2nd promotion applies to the Simply Sent Card Kits.  These are a great way to make fast and simple homemade cards.  They also make great gifts for friends who don't do crafts.  This month when you buy 2 sets (prices range from $11.95 to $13.95,) you'll be able to select a coordinating stamp set for free.  There are 3 sets from which to choose.

A Different Kind of Stamp

Calling all pro bakers (or wanna-be "pro" bakers!)  Stampin' Up has introduced it's newest type of stamp.... a cookie stamp!  Now you can stamp really adorable designs in your homemade treats and amaze your friends.   I'm not a baker (that requires measuring and I'm not that structured when I cook...lol,) but I just might have to try this with a roll of store-bought sugar cookie dough.
Item #125152, $16.95

October Hostess Club

This month's club met at Karen's house.  In addition to doing fun Stampin' Up projects, we also dressed up for Halloween and ate yummy homemade foods.  Stamping, Friends, Fun, & Food make for a memorable night.

We started with a treat "purse" for Halloween.  It was a super easy project, but they turned out really cute.

Then we transitioned to Thanksgiving and made pumpkin placeholders.

We made a one-sheet box and decorated it to hold our Blessing Mix.  These would be great to give to friends and family.  (And after you're finished bagging up the mix, you can always eat the leftovers.  hehe!)  I got the template for the box from http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/one_sheet_box/

We finished up by making a fast, yet elegant, card.

And as you can see, we had such a good time with the Halloween party part of the club meeting this month.

Halloween/Fall Stamp-A-Stack

On Tuesday night, nine ladies joined me for my Stamp-A-Stack.  I had 4 card designs and each participant made 3 cards of each style.  Three hours after we began, the ladies left with their big stack of cards ready to send to family and friends.

Small folder embossing

In this catalog, Stampin' Up introduced a new style of embossing folders.  They are smaller frames and come 2 to a package.

I love them because of their versatility on cards and scrapbooking pages.  However, I was having a problem embossing with them.  I have a Cuttlebug (I know that I sell the Sizzix Big Shot thru Stampin' Up, but I have a tiny crafting space and even housing the little Cuttlebug took some great organizational skill.  lol)  Anyway, normally I use 2 "B" plates and my "A" plate for my embossing folders and it works fine.  However with the smaller folders my embossing was bad.  I was picking up the outline of the folder and it was even cutting thru the embossed image.
Last night I went to the Home Depot.  I purchased some thin rubber in the plumbing supply section.  It's called Gasket Rubber and is 1/16" thick.  It came 2 sheets to a package for $4.57.  The sheets were just a little too wide to easily fit thru the Cuttlebug, so I trimmed one side down about 1/4".
I used the same folder again.  This time, however, I used the "C" plate, this rubber, the paper inside the embossing folder, and the "A" plate (in that order from top to bottom.)  I ran it thru the machine and here's the new embossed image.  My image isn't cut.  The edges of the folder are very faint and are really not noticeable unless looking for them.  Plus there is no crinkling on one side like before.  I think it's a great fix for very little $$$.  :)
I'm not sure if the Big Shot users have the same problem, but if so, I think they could also benefit from visiting the hardware store.  :)

***Attn Corvallis Stampers:  I had a cancellation for my Stamp-A-Stack.  If you want to come please contact me soon.  It's Tuesday, October 18th at 6:30PM. ***

Halloween with the Greeting Card Kids

I'm not sure why I haven't pulled out this set lately.  Last year I used the Greeting Card Kids stamp set all the time.  Instead of my usual clean and simple style, I cased a card I saw at convention and made my cute little kid a bit spookier.

I looked for the image of one I did last year and found it on my display board.  I like my cute little witch both ways.

Halloween Pennant

I didn't make this card, but I love the idea.  This one was a swap I received at convention from a demonstrator named Elizabeth.  I love how she used the pennant punch to create the candy corn swag.  I plan to copy the idea and make something similar.  I'll post it when I do.

Simple Halloween

Here's a cute, but very simple Halloween card I made with just one stamped image from Dark & Dreary plus a piece of designer series paper.  I like the clean lines and think it would be an especially appropriate Halloween card for a man.

*Attention Corvallis stampers:  The deadline to register for my Halloween/Fall Stamp-A-Stack is on Wednesday.  Please send me an email (svzhong@gmail.com) today to reserve your spot.*

Candy Corn Treats

I usually make some sort of cute treat for my husband to take to his co-workers for Halloween.  Last year I did something with sunflower seeds, but this year I decided to use candy corn in the skinny bags.  I didn't want them too "cutesy" so I used the raven from the Dark & Dreary stamp set and kept the colors neutral.

Halloween Pumpkin

The local craft store sells small wooden pumpkin baskets.  I'm not fond of painting, so I got one that was already painted orange.  I cut a pumpkin design out of the Frightful Sight DSP and stamped an image with Dark & Dreary.  Then I tied on some ribbon.  I used the retired pumpkin striped grosgrain to coordinate with the orange basket.
*Note:  The striped grosgrain is on the Clearance Rack of my shopping site.  Like me, I know many of you have taken advantage of the clearance deals.  I just wanted to let you know that due to the popularity of the clearance items, shipping from Stampin' Up is taking longer than usual.  Please allow 7-10 working days to receive your orders.  :)

Who Loves Halloween? We Do!

My mom is visiting from Florida this week.  We both love Halloween so we decided to spend some time making cards with the owl punch for the occasion.  We used the pennant punch to make witches hats for our owls.  That way they are ready for trick-or-treating.  hehe

*Note:  One card has a piece of the Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware.  While it's no longer current, it IS available on the clearance rack at my Stampin' Up site.  (There are lots of new things available, so if you haven't checked lately, you really should!  Click on the Free Shipping Airplane to the right, then click on "Shop Now" on my website.  Once there you will see the Clearance Rack on the left side of the page.  Click there and you will see pages and pages of things on clearance.  Clearance items may be combined on an order with regular priced things and those orders over $50 still qualify for my free shipping rebate.)
