Love Note Cards

I call small 3x3 cards “Love Notes” but they often aren’t the types of cards you’d send to your Valentine.  The little cards are great for gift enclosures, flower enclosures, or just as a little note to hand to a friend.  I have also given packages of love notes as gifts.  I think it’s a little something that is greatly appreciated.  I mean, who wouldn’t want to pass along a little handmade note?

My Hostess Club made this card set last night using Everyday Enchantment DSP, Peach Parfait cardstock, the Elementary Elegance stamp set, and the Notably Ornate stamp set.  So many of those products are available for FREE during Sale-a-Bration.  Perhaps you’d like to make your own little box of cards.  Here’s the pattern for the box.  You’ll score on the broken lines and cut on the solid ones.  (I had an oops and scored in the wrong place.  You’ll see the indentation, but there’s no marker on that line, so don’t do what I did and score in the wrong place!  lol)  You’ll start with a piece of cardstock that is 7 x 8 1/4” in size.  Score at 1 3/4”, 3 1/2”, and 5 1/4”, then turn and score at 1 3/4” and 5 1/4”.  Cut on the lines that are solid (which includes cutting out two rectangles.)  Questions?  Send me a note at svzhong@gmail.com and I’ll help.  Happy Stampin’!

Thank You Notes

Of all the greeting cards I make and send, notes of “thanks” are my most frequent creations.  I always send thank you notes to customers who buy online.  I recognize that money is tight and that when people make a purchase it’s a big deal.  I also recognize that people have choices where they spend their money and I am forever grateful to customers who choose to shop with me.  It doesn’t matter if the order if $10 or $200, I am thankful.  I don’t have a “card of the month” because I create each unique card as I receive orders.  If someone orders from me 3 times in one month, they will get 3 different cards.  I make cards because I enjoy doing it and because I am sincerely grateful.  Yesterday I had an online order from a new customer and I spent some time in my craft room making my new customer a note of thanks.  I thought I’d share it with you.

I used crumb cake & baja breeze to make this card of heartfelt thanks.  It’s not perfect.  I even had my mono adhesive leak out from one of the hearts when I stuck it down.  But that’s ok.  Homemade cards aren’t perfect, but they are from the heart and each one is special.

Paper Doily Sizzlits Die

I didn’t buy this die when it first appeared in the Occasions Mini Catalog because I had heard horror stories about how it didn’t cut out all the pieces or that it was too time consuming to use.  I like quick crafting, so I thought it wasn’t for me.  However, the more I saw it used, the more I liked it.  I broke down and ordered the die which is $21.95.  I have to say that it does have a learning curve, but I love the cuts!  I made this card using it as my background in Pear Pizazz and even used it as an overlay for the diecut butterfly.  Did it take some time?  I have to admit it did.  I found that I needed to use a shim so it would cut all the way through my paper.  The time consuming part, however, is popping out all the little pieces.  I gently rolled my paper and the larger pieces fell away, but the small ones required some work.  I put the doily on a foam mat and use my paper piercer to push out the pieces.  It only took me about 5 minutes and the results were SO worth every minute.  If it’s not part of your die collection, I highly recommend it.  If you have it, please share your thoughts here.

Scrapbooking Anyone?

My journey with papercrafting started with scrapbooking. Now I get caught up doing greeting cards and 3-D items, so sometimes I neglect my papercrafting roots. My New Year’s resolution, of sorts, was to do more scrapbooking in 2012 and I’ve already fallen behind, but I'm working on catching up! And I encourage you to do the same. Here’s an inspiration page to get you started. Whether you do digital scrapbooking, traditional scrapbooking, or something in between, get scrappin'!

Have you tried the new Framelits?

One of my favorite additions to our Occasions Mini Catalog are the framelits dies.  They come in 2 shape combinations, but it’s my understanding that there are more to come in upcoming catalogs.  They are small and easy to store and come with multiple sizes of the same shape.  Here’s a video that shows how to use these in your Sizzix Big Shot machine.  Keep in mind, however, that these will also work in your Cuttlebug.

Waiting for Spring

Here in Oregon, it’s gray & rainy outside.  It’s this time of year that I start looking ahead to spring.  I know it’s still about a month away, but I’m ready.  I’m ready to see more sunshine and beautiful flowers popping out of the ground.  I guess paper flowers will have to do until then.  If it’s rainy and cold in your neck of the woods today, pull out your flower stamps and punches and create your own spring.

Happy Valentine’s Day

choo

Oh how I remember this day when I was a child in elementary school.  A few days ahead of the holiday, we’d make a card holder out of paper plates that we decorated with paint and ribbons.  Then all the kids would bring Valentines for their classmates.  I remember carefully planning which card to give to which person.  After all, you wanted the “special” person to get just the right card.  I think if I had children, that I’d have the kids make their own Valentine cards.  Of course, then they’d miss out on those cheesy greetings.

While I probably would have selected the little choo choo train in the past for my cards, these are now a little more my style.

Romantic Valentine

Stampin’ Up has lots of really pretty stamp sets to use for your Valentine’s Day cards.  However, what if you only make a “love” themed card once a year?  I know that I have a tight crafting budget, so I try to make the most out of my stamp sets and buy ones that are most versatile.  Creative Elements (pg 137 of the Idea Book & Catalog) is one of those special sets.  It’s good for lots of occasions and projects.  I used it to make this Valentine’s Day card and I’m really happy with how it turned out.  I did add in some “love” features, but it would have been just as nice without.

Twitterpated is not just for Valentine’s Day

blossomthanks

When I saw the Twitterpated Designer Series Paper in the mini catalog, I was thinking it was a Valentine’s Day paper pack.  Twitterpated means, by defination, that you are excited by romantic feelings.  But this paper is much more than just for romance.  The colors work for different kinds of cards and work for both masculine and feminine ones.  I love the basic grey and blushing bride together.  I also love how easy it was to punch the flower out of the paper with the Blossom punch.  It’s just a pretty card and an easy one too.

Pretty in Pink

IMG_4174

Here’s a beautiful card made with the Take it to Heart stamp set from Occasions Mini Catalog.  I think it looks just awesome combined with the pink and soft suede.  This is such a versatile stamp set and one I’ve used so much already.  I am also loving the new heart shaped Framelits Dies.  They make crafting so much easier by allowing me to make nested shapes.

The Right Tools

Creating cards is kind of like cooking.  When you have the right tool for the job, it just makes it SO much easier.  This card is a great example of that.  I cased this card from demonstrator Lisa Martz.  I think it’s really cute, despite the fact it was super simple create with the Fashionable Hearts Embosslits Die and the Adorning Accents Edgelits Dies & Embossing Folders.  A card like this will amaze the recipient, but it’ll be our little secret of how simple it really was to create.

You’re My type

IMG_1989
This stamp set from the Occasions Mini has become one of my surprise favorites.  I love the simplicity.  I love that it is appropriate for masculine cards, as well as feminine ones.  I love that the sentiments fit right onto the “paper” coming out of the typewriter.  The possibilities are endless and this is one of those sets I expect to keep using long after it’s retired.
