As Promised - More Butterflies!

As promised, here are some more butterfly cards.  I received these as swaps at the Stampin’ Up Convention.

And all these beautiful butterfly cards inspired me to make one of my own.  My craft room is piled high with Christmas stamps and papers, so I did this one fast and with minimal supplies.  It was a nice break from Christmas cards.  Thanks to all the swappers for the inspiration.

Flight of the Butterflies

I love butterflies!  My name (Vanessa) actually means butterfly, so I think that has something to do with my love of the insect.  Butterflies have become increasingly popular as objects on crafts and Stampin’ Up has embraced this trend by offering numerous stamp sets, punches, and die cuts featuring butterflies.  Many of the convention swaps had butterflies on them.  Here are a few of my favorites.  Check back later this week for another set of beautiful butterfly cards.

Actually, It is a Bug

bugfeature

I love this t-shirt and I bought it for my husband last year for Christmas.  I thought it was really funny, but he’s a software developer and he deals with bugs and issues all the time, so maybe he didn’t like it as much as I.  lol  Anyway, whenever you use technology, things can go wrong.  Software, especially new software, often has issues, and bugs if you will.

Recently Stampin’ Up released it’s all new My Digital Studio 2, which is awesome in that it does so much more than the previous version.  Unfortunately, there have been some issues.  I’m happy to report, however, that there is now an update to fix the bugs.  So, if you have MDS2, you can log onto http://mydigitalstudio.net/page/updates-2 and download the update.  Of course, then again, maybe you don’t think of the problems as bugs, but rather as features.  Regardless, I would suggest you download the update to revise the features.  hehe

For the Birds

I wanted to share some more swaps with you.  These were made with a bird punch and/or stamp set.  Unfortunately, I only know who made one of the three.  I haven’t used the bird punch in a while.  Maybe it’s time to dust it off and create something pretty.

No Boxing Gloves Required

I like to try new things to improve my Stampin’ Up business.  After talking to many other demonstrators I’ve decided to offer my customers a Card Buffet.  If you’re local, you should sign up and come!  I’ll have 12 card designs.  Participants will pay $12 and will be able to make any six cards they like.  If you want more than 6 cards, you can make more and just pay $1.50 for each extra one.  Sounds fun, right?  The first in the series of Fall Card Buffets will be held on Tuesday, September 11th from 6-9PM.  Space is limited, so sign up to reserve your spot!

Now, as one who normally dislikes change in my life, I want to calm any fears and concerns about this new format.  I am not concerned that everyone will want to make the same card, but I think the participants will have enough variety that there shouldn't be any fighting.  lol  I will have 12 card options. There will be supplies to make 16 of each card.  Assuming we have 12 people attend, that should mean there are plenty of cards for all.  I assume some of the participants will only make the 6 cards for $12.  And maybe a couple ladies who are super fast will be able to make twice that amount.  (Keep in mind, the event only lasts 3 hours!)  Also, while some cards will "retire" after the event, others will be on a rotation and will be available again the following month.  So, if someone wanted to make a card and either didn't get to it because of time constraints or because someone else was making them all, there will be another opportunity the following month.  I plan to retire 4 of the 12 and then add 4 new cards the following month.  This month will be heavier on the "late summer/fall" theming, and that will transition to more Christmas cards in future months.  If I have an unexpected riot and everyone wants to make 10 of the same card, then I might have to rethink this for future buffets and take "orders" ahead of time.  Also know that if there is a card you really, really want to make and it’s running low, you only need request that I bring it back the following month and I’ll be happy to do so.  However, when I talked to other Stampin' Up folks, they have never had problems with people fighting over the same card.  lol   This will be a fun event and it won’t be like the big sale at the mall on Black Friday.  There is a supply list that includes things like adhesive and scissors, but I don’t feel the need to put boxing gloves on that list.  I promise, you’ll have fun and you won’t need to fight!  Trust me!

Mail Call

I have some really talented friends who send me cards.  I’d like to take the credit and say I taught them everything they know, but that’s just not the case.  If anything, I have learned more from them!  I thought I’d share 2 of the cards I’ve received lately that are made with Stampin’ Up products.

I’ll have more swap cards to share with you this week.  Be sure to check back here every couple of days.

Paper Piecing & Pleasant Poppies

I LOVE the Pleasant Poppies stamp.  I think it was the first thing from the new catalog that I put on my wish list.  The last time I shared this image with you, I had watercolored inside the poppies.  This time I used a paper piecing technique.  I stamped the image onto the First Edition Specialty paper and then stamped it again onto the dot pattern dsp from the Brights Collection.  I cut out the flowers from that one and stuck it onto the First Edition paper.  I think it turned out beautifully.

Paper Flowers

I love to make paper flowers and I don’t think I’m alone.  Just last week I went to a birthday celebration at a friend’s house and we made some lovely flowers.  I usually make my flowers with a little dimension, but still flat enough to go into an envelope for mailing.  What I’ve never done is made a vase full of paper flowers.  What about you?  Want to make some flowers?  Here are some directions to help get you started in crafting some home d├ęcor.

A Cute Doggie

IMG_2757

My friend, Margaret, created this card.  I thought it was so cute & asked if I could take a photo to share on the blog.  Chevron patterns are so hot right now.  I love how it adds to the Animal Talk stamp set.

PS – I never knew “Aarff Bark Arroof” meant Happy Birthday.  Evidently my dog thinks everyday is my special day.  lol

New Hostess Sets

With the new Holiday catalog comes some new hostess-only stamp sets.  One is cute and would work nicely for gift tags.  It’s called Christmas Wishes and only costs $11 hostess dollars for the clear mount version.

christmaswish

The second one is called Mixed Medley.  It’s a set that coordinates with 2 punches – the new 1 1/4” scallop circle punch (also in the holiday catalog) and the 3/4” circle punch.  I like it because it has images I can use for many occasions.  It costs $10 in hostess dollars for the clear mount variety.  I have this one and I’m looking forward to playing with it.

mixedmedley

If you like the hostess sets, you can get them a couple of ways.

1.  Join the Hostess Club!

If you’re local and want to get together every month for crafting, this is a great way to have fun, build your collection of stamps, and get free stuff one month during the club.  (The members take turns being the hostess.)  Club starts in September, so contact me if you’d like to participate or if you have more questions.

2.  Host a party!

Stampin’ Up is a home sales company.  I do in home workshops to introduce you and your friends to stamping.  If you’re local, all you need to do is book a date and get your friends together for some fun.  You host the party and you get the benefits based on the sales during your workshop.  This time of year even non-crafters get interested in making their own Christmas cards, so your friends may really appreciate that you hosted a party that would teach them how.

3.  Be your own party!

If you live far away or just don’t want to host an event, you can still qualify for hostess benefits by ordering at least $150 in product.  This is a popular option, not only for my long-distance customers, but also for some of my local folks too.  If your wish list is long, it’s a great way to get freebies while buying things you want.  As a bonus, since you’ll be spending more than $50, I’ll also be rebating your shipping costs.

A Cute Idea for your Fabric

This is a project that was shown at convention.  I love it and I think if I were sick and received this that I’d feel much, much better.  hehe

Clearance Rack Alert

fabric

If you sew or like to use fabric on your papercrafting projects, you may be interested to know that some new items have made it to the clearance rack.  There are 4 varieties of designer series fabric packages that cost only .99 each!  (Note:  Once you get to the clearance rack section, if you sort by price it’ll be easier to see the 4 collections.)

I’m not sure how long these will last since they are so deeply discounted.

Have a great weekend-

Perfectly Preserved

When I saw this set in the holiday catalog, I thought it would be perfect for some people, but not for me.  I even bought it as a gift for a friend.  But then I saw cards and projects made using it and I decided I needed it too!  In my mind, this stamp set was for people who canned food or people who have vegetable gardens.  I don’t have either, but I think it’s stinkin’ cute.

Serene Silhouettes

When the new catalog arrived I made a long list of stamps sets for my wish list.  Serene Silhouettes was on that list.  I think it’s a such a beautiful set.  I ordered it, but I haven’t even mounted the images yet.  Fortunately, I received some swaps at convention using the set.  Now I can be more inspired to pull my set out and put it together.

Tea Shoppe Swaps

I received 3 really pretty swaps using the Tea Shoppe stamp set (p 57.)  I have this set, but I’ve only used it a couple of times.  Seeing these makes me want to use it again soon!

A Cute Halloween Project

Spookytray

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays so I was super excited when I saw the Stampin’ Up promotion for August.  If you’ve ever thought about signing up as a demonstrator, now would be a good time.  For $99 you would get to select $125 in merchandise as your kit.  (It’s your choice!  You can pick any items you’d like!)  Then you’ll also get the supplies (worth $60) and instructions to make this cute project for FREE!  (PS – When I recruit I get the project for free too, so I’d love it if you’d sign up, even if it’s only for a month or two.  lol)

Here’s an image of the free stuff you’d get in the kit.  The picture shows both clear mount, as well as wood mount stamps, so you could select which stamp set style you prefer.
